08.31.04 - 1:40 AM

Sega has released the first bits of information on the newest installment in the long running strategy RPG series, Shining Force. An article on the so far untitled PlayStation 2 game was featured in Japanese publication Weekly Shounen Magazine. In charge of the game's colorful character designs will be Yuriko Nishiyama, whose track record includes the mangas Dragon Voice and Harlem Beat. Three characters have been revealed so far. The game's protagonist will be Max, a boy whose dad was a legendary hero. The female lead, Meryl is a bright girl, despite having lost her parents. She has very strong feelings for Max. The third character is only referred to as a mysterious man. The sword-wielding man wears a gold and red-colored armor and helmet. In the magazine scan (seen below) a lush field map including bridges and a waterfall as well as battle scenes are shown. Apparently the game will allow more than 20 party members and enemies to take part in the same battle.

Shining Force for PlayStation 2 will be available in Japan sometime in spring 2005.
