Square Enix Releases FY2003/2004 Figures

Square Enix has released its financial results for the fiscal year which ended on March 31st. The company boasted a net profit of 10.99 billion yen ($97.21 million US) on sales of 63.22 billion yen ($559.22 million US). Worldwide software sales reached 13.62 million copies, behind several highly successful titles. Dragon Quest V: Tenguu no Hanayome has sold more than 1.6 million copies in Japan since its late March release, while Final Fantasy X-2 managed to achieve more than two million copies of combined sales in the two major overseas markets North America and Europe. Adding up American and European sales, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance also reached plantium status outside Japan.

For the current fiscal year 2004/2005, Square Enix projects sales of 76 billion yen ($672.27 million US) and a net profit of 11.5 billion yen ($101.72 million US). Software sales are estimated to decline to 12.10 million copies, with 8.06 million copies being projected to be sold in the Japanese market. At the same time, Square Enix declined to give any details regarding the release schedule of the newest installments of its flagship series, Final Fantasy XII and Dragon Quest VIII. Whether both titles will be released during the current fiscal year continues to be uncertain. As previously stated by president Youichi Wada, Square Enix aims to continue its expansion into the mobile contents market worldwide, thereby mirroring its success in the Japanese mobile contents market.

What was also revealed today, was that Enix founder and Square Enix's No.1 shareholder Yasuhiro Fukushima will resign from his position as chairman at next month's shareholders meeting. He will continue to serve as a consultant to the company. No successor has been named so far.
