Final Fantasy X-2 Hits South Korea
04.21.04 - 1:14 PM

Electronic Arts Korea released Final Fantasy X-2 in the South Korean market today. The localized version features text in the Korean Hangul script system and is only based on Final Fantasy X-2, meaning it does not contain the additions featured in this year's Final Fantasy X-2 International + Last Mission. So far South Korea has seen PC releases of Final Fantasy VII and VIII as well as Final Fantasy X for PlayStation 2. Despite being in English, the latter sold close to 60,000 copies. With the fully localized sequel, Electronic Arts aims for a higher sales performance. Since video game console have only recently entered this difficult market, which is being dominated by PC-based MMORPGs like NCSoft's Lineage, sales of this scale are considered reasonably high. However industry analysts have pointed out, that it was about time that big titles sell more than 100,000 copies, otherwise there would be no development in the future.

The original release of Final Fantasy X-2 in Japan has sold two million copies following its February 2003 release. In the US the game has subsequently broken the platinum mark as well, by selling more than one million copies. On February 19th, Square Enix released the updated version, Final Fantasy X-2 International + Last Mission in Japan, which has achieved sales of 250,000 copies to date.
