Capcom Shuts Down Tokyo-based Development Studios
03.26.04 - 4:45 PM

Capcom has shut down its Tokyo-based development studios as part of a continued restructuring effort. Among the teams that have been dissolved is the Yoshinori Ono-headed sixth production team, which was responsible for the development of last year's gothic action title Chaos Legion. The majority of the company's development operations however are based at its headquarters in Osaka and therefore remain uneffected by the move. Other divisions which have been disbanded are the development studio in Nagoya as well as the in-house PC development division. The former was once controlled by former executive director Yoshiki Okamoto, who quit the company last year and founded his own development company. Hence a lot of former staffers from said studio quit Capcom to work for Okamoto again.

Last year was a tumultuous year for Capcom, as Okamoto left the company, Resident Evil mastermind Shinji Mikami resigned as head of the fourth production team, and the development of 18 titles was abandoned.
