Producer Talks Mega Man X Command Mission
03.20.04 - 6:39 PM

Tatsuya Kitabayashi recently spoke about Mega Man X Command Mission for PlayStation 2 and GameCube. The producer, who has also been involved in the development of Mega Man X7, and the Breath of Fire series described his newest project as an RPG based on the Mega Man X series, which could be considered a sequel, but will not be the beginning of a new series itself. He mentioned his experience with Breath of Fire helped him in creating the new battle mode for Command Mission. Asked whether the title would feature any connection to the GameBoy Advance-based EXE series, Kitabayashi replied he could come up with some kind of connection between the two, provided enough requests are being voiced. He also revealed that players will have seven characters at their disposal, among which they can choose three active ones. According to the producer, the greatest challenge in creating the game was striking a balance between the traditional action-oriented gameplay that Mega Man games are renowned for and the new RPG elements. While voice acting will be implemented, only intro and outro will be done in CG.

Mega Man X Command Mission will be available in Japan and the US later this year.

In further Mega Man-related news, the head of Capcom's second production team and series mastermind Keiji Inafune mentioned in an interview with Play Magazine, that once he has enough time at his hands, he would love to develop a new Rockman Dash (Mega Man Legends in the US) installment.
