PlayOnline Celebrates First Birthday
05.16.03 - 4:58 PM

Exactly one year ago, Square launched its online service PlayOnline and its first MMORPG Final Fantasy XI for the PlayStation 2 in Japan. Since then the population of Vana'diel has steadily grown to over 600,000. 300,000 copies of the game (both versions) have been sold in Japan, with more than 200,000 subscribers being currently registered. The expansion disc Vision of Jiraat, which has been available in Japan since April 27th, has sold more than 110,000 copies in Japan.

On this side of the Pacific, Final Fantasy XI will be available for the PC in late 2003 and for the PlayStation 2 in early 2004.
