Square Enix has announced its second console online RPG: Star Ocean Online. Just like Square's first foray into the world of MMORPGs with Final Fantasy XI, Star Ocean Online will be available for PlayStation 2 and PC.

Similar to its offline predecessors, the game will be heavily science-fiction-themed and feature the same fast-paced, action oriented game play as the series' previous installments. While details are few so far, some conceptual artwork by series newcomer Kouichi Tanizaki and an early rendition of the game's logo can be seen in our pictures section by following the link below.

The tri-Ace developed Star Ocean Online is scheduled for release in Japan sometime in 2004.

Update: In case you haven't figured it out yet, yes, this was indeed an April Fool's joke. There is no Star Ocean Online, or even a game artist (to our knowledge) named Kouichi Tanizaki. So, now you know.
