First Breath of Fire PS2 Info

As previously hinted at, the new Breath of Fire game for the PlayStation 2 will have a much different atmosphere from that of the previous games. The game is referred to a "Survival RPG", and its battle system will focus more on action, as the players will have to face numerous enemies simultaneously.

A few details on the story have been revealed. After an ecological catastrophe, people have been forced to live underground. Many years after, people have been living in Shelter, a city buried deep underground, and have not seen the sky ever since. The main characters' names are Ryu 1/8773 and Nina; the number in Ryu's name is his "World ID". One day, Ryu decides to go out to the world of the surface, and the game follows his journey there.

Graphically, the game's style has evolved a lot. It now features the ever so popular 3D polygon characters with black outlines, and changes in the character artwork are visible.

Additonnally, Breath of Fire introduces a new system named PETS (Positive Encounter and Tactics System), allowing players to "set up traps and decoys in the environment prior to going into battle against monsters". Another new concept in this new BOF game is the SOL (Scenario Overlay System): every time a player starts a new game, his previous games will influence the new game. The experience points and items will be carried over, and some new events and episodes may be unlocked.

A thing to note is that, despite being the fifth in the series, the game still carries the working title of Breath of Fire - no V. Breath of Fire PS2 has no scheduled release date yet, but we'll keep you informed of any announcements. In the meanwhile, you can click the following links to see the first pictures of the game.
