First Final Fantasy XI Story Details

Finally, the first details concerning Square's upcoming online RPG, Final Fantasy XI, have been revealed. The game will take a place in a world called Vana Dir. Contrary to the world of its predecessor, where technology is banned, in Vana Dir it coexists along with magic and swords. The evil you will fight in FFXI isn't a beast of the present or future, but rather a resurrected evil existence, which is a first timer for any Final Fantasy title. The search for crystals on the other hand, isn't new to the series and will make a return.

Final Fantasy mastermind Hironobu Sakaguchi mentioned he wants to create a more story-driven online RPG, in comparison to previous efforts from competitors.

The eleventh installment of the Final Fantasy series is currently set to be released in Japan in April 2002. Final Fantasy XI will only be playable online through PlayOnline, Square's internet service platform. No date for US release has been given so far.

RPGFan will bring you the latest information on the first ever online Final Fantasy game as it becomes available.
