Dreamcast Fuurai no Shiren Announced

A new installment in the Fushigi no Dungeon Fuurai no Shiren (Mystery Dungeon - Shiren the Wanderer) series has been announced today, and it's... for the Dreamcast! A bit of history about the series... Quite obscure in the West, Chunsoft's Mystery Dungeon series was originally a spin-off series to Dragon Quest, the first title in the series, Torneko no Daibouken (Torneko's Great Adventure) featuring a character from DQ. Since then, the Mystery Dungeon series has yielded 6 installments and has secured the position of most popular dungeon RPG in Japan, a genre very apreciated there. It's also the series that Square ripp.... er... that inspired Square for their Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon series.

This newly announced game is entitled Fushigi no Dungeon Fuurai no Shiren Gaiden: Onna Kenshi Asuka Kenzan which roughly translates to Mystery Dungeon - Shiren the Wanderer Side Story: Asuka The Swordswoman Appears. This new game will retain the series' usual items, monsters and randomly-generated dungeons, but will also feature a number of new DC-exclusive elements; detail of said elements have yet to be explained.

Fuurai no Shiren Gaiden will be released on December 20th for 6,800 yen and will be published by Sega - a rather surprising move from Chunsoft, as the developer has been published almost exclusively by Nintendo so far.

With only one title in the series released in the US (Torneko: The Last Hope), and with the DC being the way it is in the US, the chances of seeing this game in the US are non-existant.
