Enix's New Online RPG, Depth Fantasia

Depth Fantasia is a new online RPG for the PC platform from no other company than the makers of Dragon Quest and publisher of Star Ocean, Enix. The game is currently slated for a winter 2001 release in Japan.

Depth Fantasia allows parties of up to four players, and players can either cooperate with other users online or proceed on their own. The battle system's two major components are the Active Chain Battle system and Life Gems. While the earlier one allows you to perform chain attacks together with other party members, a Life Gem is necessary to level up your character and weapon stats.

Both your character and weapons can be also leveled up by taking on a fellow user in a "duel". As well as in most Enix game, you will find a job system in Depth Fantasia. As always, available magic spells depend on the kind of job you chose; however, you can be relieved, jobs aren't fixed. You can change yours without losing the previously mastered skills.

The game's story takes place on Ritos Island. On one day, a demon appears and attacks a village, located at the center of the island. However, it is defeated by one of the villagers who was holding the legendary Life Gem, a mysterious treasure passed down by generations. With the appearance of the life gem, the real problems for Ritos Island are just about to begin. Many more demons come out of nowhere and the powerful Kingdom of Daros is also in search of the precious stone. The player takes the role of an adventurer traveling from Daros to Ritos Island in order to suppress the demons and search for the legendary Life Gems.

There has been no indication of a US release date for Depth Fantasia. Enix of America is not currently a PC publisher.
