Might and Magic for the PS2 in Japan?

Imagineer announced its plan to release Might and Magic: Day of the Destroyer for the PlayStation 2 in Japan. The PlayStation 2 release is a direct port of the original PC version, Might and Magic VIII: Day of the Destroyer. The games will be similar in terms of gameplay, character, and weapons classes. The story, as with the PC version, takes place in the world of Enroth, which has fallen out of balance with the cosmos. As a result, the gateways to the elemental planes have been opened, freeing the forces of earth, air, fire, and water, allowing them to wreak havoc throughout the land.

You must form a party of up to five heroes to unite the human and monster races of the world in time to launch a joint campaign to close the gateways and save Enroth. Playing as a novice mercenary hired to guard the Dark Elven Merchant Guild's trade caravan, your first concern is to escape the doomed Dagger Wound Islands to the mainland of Jadame. As you build your party, gain experience, and build up your arsenal of weapons, knowledge, artifacts and spells, you will also have your wits and resolve tested to their limits by the traps and puzzles set by your foes, including the elementals themselves.

A release date is unknown at this time, and there is no word on whether or not this PlayStation 2 port of Might and Magic: Day of the Destroyer will make it over to the US shores.
