Saturday's News Bits

SCEI's RPG Legend of Dragoon is now available in stores, at a recommended retail price of $39.99. Run as fast as you can to your favorite retailer! ...Or not :P

Chunsoft's lastest installment to its Mysterious Dungeon series, Fushigi no Dungeon: Fuurai no Shiren 2, will make it to Japanese stores next September 27th, just around the same time Torneko: the Last Hope, from the same series, will be released in the US.

The popular anime Houshin Engi is about to give birth to a new game adaptation. The new game is a simulation RPG developed by Banpresto. Entitled Senkai Ibunroku: Jundai Taisen, this new adaptation is an original story. This title will most likely not be related to Bandai's adaptation, Senkai Taisen.

Yesterday, June 16th, Nintendo has celebrated the sale of its 100,000,000th Game Boy. It's been 11 years since the original launch of the system in April of 1989, and the console has had a second boom thanks to Pokémon, which helped to increase the sales these past few years. The Game Boy is by far the best selling system ever, and has had a number of incarnations throughout the years (GB Pocket, GB Color, not to mention special editions like the Pikachu or Hello Kitty Game Boys).

Nintendo is also keeping their Pokémon fans restless with the announcement of quite an unusual new console design, called Pikachu Nintendo 64! Available in orange or blue, the system will be released on July 21st for a price of 14,000 yen ($130). However, gamers interested in this new product should be aware that it will not be compatible with the DD64. There is no word yet on a possible US or European release.

After several delays, Nec Interchannel's Sentimental Graffiti 2 should be released on July 27th (and not July 25th like I previously reported). The game will retail at a price of 6,800 yen.

Wow, the possibilities of the iMODE (Japanese cell phone) seems to increase everyday! Not only can you browse through the Internet with your phone, but you can now play an RPG "published" by Nec, provided that you pay a fee of 300 yen/month. BiglobeTown, which is the name of this RPG, is a character stat raising game where you will have to educate and look after your characters.

Lastly, for those of you who like figures, here are the RPG sales of the week for June 5th to May 11th (they include both normal and limited editions of the games):
