Sega's New Action RPG

Sega presented at last week's Spring Tokyo Game Show a new action-RPG, tentatively called Napple Tale: Arsia in Daydream.

The "Napple World" is the land of slumber where souls roam after death. The game's main character, a little girl, falls by accident into this dream world and thereby begins the story of Napple Tale. The goal of the game is to help the heroine find her way out of Napple World, by fighting monsters, collecting items and adventuring in a 3D-CG environment. The world of Napple is made of six sections - Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, Past and Future - which our heroine will have to journey through to return to the real world. She will be helped on her way by small fairies that can be found as items in dungeons and used later.

Aimed primarily at young girls, Napple Tale is to hit Japanese stores sometime this summer. The game's director, Mr. Matsumoto, also directed the Saturn RPG Terra Phantastica. Anime fans will be pleased to hear that Yoko Kanno, the composer for anime series such as Escaflowne and Macross Plus, will be composing the game's music, allowing for the possibility that her comrade, Maaya Sakamoto, might sing the opening and ending songs. As for character design, the artist is Mootan, a 25-year old designer making her debut in the video game industry with a very cute pastel style.
