Online Gaming Tournament!

Online gaming, the true revolution in competition gaming. Playing someone you've never met from hundreds of miles apart. In some cases, across the planet.

As one of the more active online gamers at RPGFan, I've long considered online gaming tournaments here. Now, this dream takes life in The RPGFan Online Gaming Tournament for StarCraft and StarCraft: Brood War.

Blizzard Entertainment's RTS strategy game is one of the most popular on the market. With 3 races strugling for control of the universe, it's your turn to kick some serious butt.

With that, we now have RPGFan's latest adventure. Let's get down to it, shall we?

Tournament Date

Friday, March 10th. Gaming starts at 6 PM EST. All players should report to channel "RPGFan" for gaming assignments.

StarCraft players. No Brood War expansion set.

For those of you who own only the original StafCraft, you are welcome to join the tournament. Please make sure you upgrade to version 1.07 of StarCraft by connecting to battle.net.

StarCraft: Brood War players.

You are also welcome to join the tournament. However, due to the fact that running 2 brackets would leave us with 2 winners who are unable to compete for championship, you will be playing the standard version of StarCraft without using your expansion pack. This is possible by selecting "Original" on the multiplayer screen.

Entering the Tournament

All players who wish to compete in the RPGFan tournament must have signed up by 12:01 AM EST on Thursday, March 9th. Any applications beyond this time will not be accepted. Send applications to ArchAngel@rpgfan.com.

What do I need to enter?

To enter the RPGFan tournament, you need the following:

StarCraft CD-Rom disc.

A PC connected to the internet at 28.8k or faster.

A new battle.net screen name with ~RPG~ after your name. (ex. ArchAngel~RPG~) Staff members in the tournament will have a ~RS~ after their name. If you need help, ask one of these people. Do not use this screen name before the tournament begins, but do set it up before you send the application.

A taste for some serious RTS combat with 6 other players.

What you need in your application.

Be sure to include your real name, b.net screen name with ~RPG~ suffix, your message board nickname at RPGFan(not required), and your favorite StarCraft race.

Rules

Players not present at time of game lose by default.

Each game will have 7 players and 1 RPGFan staff member.

Staff members have the right to kick/ban any players found to be using hacks, cheats, or any method of game manipulation.

This tournament is single elimination. You lose, you're done.

No vulgarity or excessive taunting.

The official RPGFan map will be distributed at game time.

The winner of the tournament recieves some serious bragging rights and will be given credit in a RPGFan update with the final tournament results.

What map are we using?

The practice map can be downloaded here. This may or may not be the final map we use. Thanks to RPGFan reader Seifer Almsay for the awesome map designs. :P

Now then, you know what's happening. To apply, mail me at ArchAngel@rpgfan.com. If you have questions, e-mail me at ArchAngel@rpgfan.com. I encourage everyone who can to enter. There is no limit to the number of players. So sign up!
