Various FF8 News

I decided to update about some of the recent Final Fantasy VIII news because quite frankly, I realized that we haven't really updated with all this news when it was originally reported so here it is, better late than never.

First of all is the news that the American Final Fantasy VIII will not have the lockout that prevents the game from being played on a modded Playstation. I guess this is good news to all of you who have had their PSX modded.

The second news is about the release date for the game. In all the magazine ads, it says that Final Fantasy VIII is coming out on the 9th of September. However, Square has mentioned before that the game would actually come out on the 7th. Since the ads are all done in advance, Square couldn't change them when they decided to change the release to September 7th (kinda like when Working Design had ads for Lunar SSSC in the December issues of magazines despite the fact that the game was delayed). Anyway, now it seems like Square has gone back to a release date of September 9th so I guess those ad will indeed be correct after all. Looks like September 9th 1999 will be THE best day in the history of videogame (not that the release of the Dreamcast wasn't already enough for me but I guess this just confirms it even more :P).

The other news is actually for all you European and Australian visiting RPGFan. Eidos has announced that it will release Final Fantasy VIII in both Europe and Australia so if any of you prefer to get the PC version, you'll be able to get it thanks to Eidos. Don't expect this version until late 99 or early 2000 though.
