Best Port or Re-release of 2012: Persona 4 Golden

Best Port or Re-release of 2012: Persona 4 Golden (PSVita)

The word "port" typically doesn't carry an exciting connotation. The act of releasing an existing game on a new platform is frequently seen as a cash-grabbing practice, but when it comes to companies like Atlus, we always know we're in for something more. Our expectations were surpassed once again with the deliciously content-rich Persona 4 Golden. Rather than adding a tweak here and there, Atlus gave the game a makeover from top to bottom, and the results are incredibly satisfying. A vastly expanded story allows for more intimate connections with the game's loveable cast, new music delights the ears at every turn, and new goals — both inside the TV World and out — make the game as addictive as ever for both newbies and long-time fans. Persona 4 Golden not only looks beautiful on the Playstation Vita, but it's a practical port, too; never before has such a compelling world been so readily accessible. Welcome back to Inaba. We hope you enjoy your stay.

Runner-up: The Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition (Xbox 360)

Originally a PC exclusive in 2011, CD Projekt RED took its time to make sure the Xbox 360 would see a worthy port of widely acclaimed RPG The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings the following year. And so it was: controls felt natural to the console player, and the beautiful visuals carried over without losing any lustre. With bonus story content added in, Geralt of Rivia seemed right at home on the 360.
